On 28 November 2024, Newsweek Romania will host ESG Summit 2024, a reference event for companies and organizations that want to adopt sustainable practices and increase their transparency in relation to ESG criteria – Environmental, Social, and Governance. The Summit will be streamed online at Newsweek.ro and on the publication’s Facebook page.
What is ESG and why is it important? ESG is a set of criteria used to assess a company’s environmental and social impact and corporate governance. These principles have become increasingly relevant as the global economy moves towards sustainability. In the European Union, the Green Pact and the new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) set strict standards, requiring companies to be more transparent and publish detailed information about their sustainability.
From 2025, large companies will be obliged to report according to these standards, and from 2027, all listed companies in the EU will have to comply with the same requirements.
This will also include companies with more than 10 employees, bringing a significant transformation in the business environment.
Challenges and opportunities of ESG implementation – As companies prepare to integrate ESG reporting, they face complex challenges.
Adopting such a framework involves not only complying with new regulations, but also reorienting the way organizations do business.
However, companies that implement ESG can benefit from an enhanced reputation, attract responsible investors and contribute to a greener and fairer economy.
The ESG Summit will address these challenges and present examples of best practices from Romania and abroad. Innovative projects such as RetuRO, a circular economy initiative unique in Romania, demonstrate how public-private partnerships can play a key role in promoting sustainability.
